End the 40-Tab Research Spiral

Cut a decision down to the only 3 factors that matter, then get a ranked answer with no hedging.

More research is how you avoid deciding.

You've been comparing options for 4 days. You have 40 tabs, 3 spreadsheets and no answer, and somewhere around tab 20 the research stopped being research and became a way to not decide.

The problem isn't information, it's that you're comparing on 14 factors when only 3 of them will actually affect your life. Everything else is noise you've given a column to.

I did this with a laptop purchase that had eaten a full weekend. It took 6 minutes.

The prompts

1. Start here

Strips the decision back to what actually matters to you.

The 3-factor prompt
I'm trying to decide [decision] and I have 40 tabs open. Ask me what genuinely matters to me here, then tell me the only 3 factors worth comparing on.

2. Go deeper

A ranked answer, with the hedging removed.

The ranked answer prompt
Now compare these options on only those 3 factors: [options]. No extra criteria, no "it depends", give me a ranked answer and your reasoning.

3. Bonus

Tests the answer instead of trusting it.

The truth-test prompt
Tell me what would have to be true for the second-place option to win, then tell me honestly how likely that is for someone in my situation.

Bonus: Make it yours

Add your budget and your deadline in the first prompt. Both quietly eliminate half the options.

Do this today: pick the decision you've been researching longest. It's the one that's least likely to change with more tabs.
