Make a Book Actually Stick

Three ideas that apply to your real life, the smallest test for each, and the one you'll ignore.

You loved it and you can't remember a single thing from it.

You finished a book 3 weeks ago. You'd recommend it to anyone. Ask you what it changed and you've got nothing, which means you spent 9 hours being entertained and called it learning.

Ideas don't stick because you agreed with them. They stick because you did something small and slightly awkward within a week of reading them.

I do this the day I finish something. It's turned about 4 books into things I actually do.

The prompts

1. Start here

Pulls the ideas that apply to your life, not the summary.

The real-life application prompt
I just finished [book or podcast]. Ask me what stuck with me, then tell me the 3 ideas from it that actually apply to my life right now and why.

2. Go deeper

Turns each idea into something testable by Sunday.

The Sunday test prompt
For each of those 3, give me the smallest change I could make by Sunday to test whether it works for me.

3. Bonus

The one that hurts, and the one that gets saved.

The ignored-idea prompt
Now tell me which idea from this book I'll agree with completely and never act on, and what that says about where I'm actually stuck.

Bonus: Make it yours

Tell Claude what you're working on right now. The 3 ideas it picks will be different and much more useful.

Do this today: pick the last book you loved. If you can't name 3 ideas from it, this is exactly what it's for.
